Who is responsible for your information
Maha Ghee, currently operated as a sole proprietorship and invoicing as Maha Ghee, is responsible for personal information processed through this store. The business address is Dharmanda Farm 161, Knysna, 6571, Western Cape, South Africa. Privacy enquiries can be sent to gheemailme@gmail.com.
Information we collect
When you place an order, submit a wholesale application, leave a review or contact us, we may collect your name, email address, mobile number, business and delivery details, order information, payment status, review content and messages you send us. If you use the referral programme, we also record your customer-profile identifier, personal referral code and aggregated referral activity. Private pool requests also record the captain’s profile, pool name, jar choice, quantity and agreed delivery arrangements. The owner handles payment reconciliation personally. Captains see only their own limited group progress and confirmed totals; member emails, bank references and proofs of payment are not shared with captains. Basic technical and security information may also be processed when you use the site.
Why we use it

- To prevent misuse, protect the store and keep accurate transaction records.
- To attribute eligible referred purchases and maintain customer reward-credit balances and jars-shared counts.
- To meet tax, accounting and other legal obligations.
- To send marketing only where you have chosen to receive it.
Payments
If you choose to save your details at checkout, we record that choice and make your contact and delivery details available for reuse after you verify your email using a private profile link. Opening a verified private profile link also sets an essential, secure, HttpOnly cookie so checkout can check that profile’s available credit. It lasts up to 24 hours and stops granting access when the private link expires. This is separate from optional analytics and marketing consent. Guest checkout remains available. Order records are retained for fulfilment and accounting whether or not you choose a profile. This choice does not subscribe you to marketing emails.
Orders currently use EFT invoicing. We share the customer contact details, order items, amount and reference with Zoho Books to create and email invoices and maintain accounting records. Maha Ghee verifies payment before dispatch. Card payments are not currently available; we do not collect complete card numbers, CVVs or banking passwords.
Who receives information
We share only what is reasonably necessary with service providers that help us operate the store, including the payment provider shown at checkout, PUDO or the selected courier, website hosting and transactional email providers. We do not sell your personal information.
Reviews and wholesale applications
Wholesale applications are kept private and used to assess and respond to trade or food-service enquiries. Reviews are moderated before publication. Only the reviewer name, optional location and business name, selected product, rating, heading and review text may be published with consent; email addresses and order references remain private.
POPIA and processing outside South Africa
We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), where necessary to fulfil orders, meet legal obligations or pursue legitimate interests such as store security. Where consent is required, including for optional marketing and publishing reviews, we ask for it separately. Providing order and delivery details is necessary to fulfil an order; without them we may be unable to supply or deliver your purchase.
Payment, hosting and email providers may process or store information outside South Africa. Such transfers must meet the applicable requirements of section 72 of POPIA, including appropriate protection, contractual safeguards or another lawful basis.
How long we keep it
We retain order and communication records only for as long as reasonably needed to provide support, maintain business and tax records, resolve disputes and meet legal obligations. Information that is no longer required will be deleted or de-identified where reasonably practicable.
Your choices and rights
You may ask what personal information we hold about you and request correction, deletion or objection where allowed by law. You may unsubscribe from marketing at any time. We may need to retain certain transaction records where the law requires it.
Cookies
This store keeps an unfinished basket, promo code and checkout details in your browser tab’s session storage so you can browse and refresh without starting again. You can clear entered checkout details on the checkout page; this temporary draft is normally removed when the tab’s session ends. Card details are never stored here. Submitted orders are held separately in our secure order system. When someone follows a Maha referral link, a first-party referral cookie may store the referring code for up to 30 days so an eligible purchase can be attributed automatically. It does not reveal the buyer's identity to the person who shared the link. Optional analytics and Meta marketing measurement have separate choices, both off by default.
Optional website analytics
Only if you choose Allow analytics, we use Google Analytics to understand visits to public pages. Google receives page names, approved non-personal campaign labels, recognised search or social referral domains without their URL paths, basic browser and device information, network information such as your IP address, and analytics cookie identifiers; its services may process information outside South Africa. We do not intentionally send your name, email address, contact details, form answers, order details, URL query strings or private account pages to Analytics. Advertising features are disabled.
You can decline without affecting shopping, and change or withdraw your choice using Analytics preferences. Withdrawal stops future analytics collection on this browser and removes the Google Analytics cookies we set; it does not automatically delete information previously collected by Google. We remember your choice for up to six months. See Google’s privacy policy for how Google processes information.
Optional Meta marketing measurement
Only if you choose Allow marketing, we send Meta public page-view and checkout-start events to measure interest in Maha Ghee. These contain a fixed public page address without query strings, the event type, and standard device and network information received by Meta, such as your browser and IP address. We do not send names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, form answers, order references, private pages or payment details. We do not use advanced matching or automatic form collection. No purchase event is sent by this integration.
Marketing consent is separate from Google Analytics and from email subscriptions. Shopping and Maria’s offer work without it. Use Marketing preferences to allow or reject measurement; withdrawal stops future events on this browser but cannot retract events already received by Meta. We remember each choice for up to six months; if browser storage is unavailable, your choice applies only to the current visit. Meta may process information outside South Africa.
